Minister: Russia may start making microchips in Far East
MOSCOW, Aug 31 (PRIME) -- Russia may establish a company to manufacture microchips for cars on the Russky Island in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, and there are interested Russian investors, Far East and Arctic Development Minister Alexei Chekunkova told PRIME on Wednesday.
“As to the manufacture of super advanced microchips, at the level of three to four nanometers, it’s rocket science that a country and a half in the world can do now. But such microchips are needed for the iPhone, not cars, where 60 nanometers are enough,” Chekunkov said.
“I personally met with Russian investors interested in building a production facility in the Far East to make 60 nanometer microchips.”
Russia has a gigantic market with demand for hundreds of billions rubles per year.
